Led by special ambassador Merle Adams, the Arapahoe high school wrestling team was honored for finishing fifth at the Nerbaska State Dual Tournament shortly before the Friday evening session at the State Wrestling Tournament this weekend.

William Marion Gotchall, 79, of McCook, NE, passed away on February 19th, 2022, at his home in McCook, NE after a recent diagnosis of advanced cancer. William (Bill) was born on May 22, 1942, to the late Marion and Norma (Struthers) Gotchall. He was born in Grants Pass, Oregon, moved to the family farm north of Lebanon in 1947 and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1960.

Arthur Myrne Marshall, Jr. age 79, of Indianola, passed away at his home on February 11, 2022.

Victor Vern Beckler was born June 24, 1990, in Friend, Nebraska to William and Tressa (Brown) Beckler, and passed away suddenly on Monday, February 14, 2022, at his home in Elwood at the age of 31. Victor was baptized on July 29, 1990, and confirmed on April 24, 2005, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova.

Sam Osterman pinned Kenny McClelland of Clearwater/Orchard in 1:43; won a 9-2 decision over Austin Ruskamp (35-9) of Freeman; lost a 1-7 decision to Forrest Jones (29-3) of Winside, won a 4-1 decision over Barrett Pieper (40-12) of NPSP; and lost 0-7 decision to Josh Eklund (46-4) of Friend for 4th place and a state medal.

10 years ago Elwood Boy Scouts Troop 154 enjoyed their families swim night for their February meeting on Valentine’s night at the Eustis Pool. Scouts attending are Evan Niemeier, Conner Schutz, Trevor Jorges, Jayden Kohl, Cauy Bennett, Kaden Nickell, Creighton Hexcox, Aniston Kohl, Judah Niemeier, Elijah Niemeier, Isaiah Bullis, Braxton Kohl, Dash Headley, Broden Dean, and Kaden Clouse.

10 years ago Cambridge student Cory Shoff took second in the oral competition and Kimber Boley took fourth in the written competition at the Furnas County Spelling Bee last Wednesday. Cambridge Swing Choir competed in the Nebraska Choral Directors Show Choir Festival at Imperial.

10 years ago Thrivent will sponsor a benefit for Dean Huxoll on Sunday, March 4, at Holbrook Community Building to assist Dean in medical expenses due to major surgery for cancer in his mouth. During the Furnas County Commissioners meeting on February 14th the group accepted the resignation of Judy Beins, Clerk of the District Court.
