Richard Lyle Conner, 84, passed away July 14, 2022 in St. John, KS. He was born February 11, 1938 to Harold Wilbur and Goldie Pearl Conner (Dillan) in Wilsonville, NE. Richard enjoyed tinkering with his projects, going to the senior center to play cards (preferably Pitch), going fishing and helping other farmers out during harvest season. He also owned his own mechanic shop and liked to put a 350 chevy engine in any type of vehicle. Richard is survived by his sons, Randal West of St. John, KS and Gary Conner (Starla) of Phillipsburg, KS; daughters, Doris Cooper (Starling) of Avon, IN, Mary Bohl (significant other, Robert) of Drexel, MO, Tina Hursman (Derrick) of Concordia, MO; brother-in-law, Bill Hofferber; sister, Lois Vandusen (Dennis) of Kearney, NE; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Donald (Don) L. Leising, 91, of Lincoln passed away peacefully surrounded by family July 7, 2022.

Twyla Maxine Golter born August 26, 1933, in Holbrook, Nebraska, passed July 2, 2022, in Flagstaff, AZ. She was born to Fred and Laura Huxoll. She was one of 6 daughters and 6 sons born to Fred and Laura.

A memorial service for Mary E. Youngquist will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. A private inurnment will be held prior to the service at the Stamford Cemetery in Stamford, Nebraska.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for grants through the Independent Processor Assistance Program. Johnathan Hladik, policy director at the Center for Rural Affairs, said the agency is expected to distribute nearly $10 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to Nebraskans, in an effort to improve and expand the state's meatprocessing capabilities.

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, July 19, 2022. All Council members were present for the meeting. After no comment for the public hearing to add Federal Firearms License to Ordinance No. 806 - City of Cambridge Zoning Regulations, Mayor Gunderson closed the hearing. Council then approved the Consent Agenda items.

Saturday evening storms brought needed rain but also wind damage to Furnas County farms, like this one east of Holbrook. Heavy rain also marred the final night of the Furnas County Fair in Beaver City.

BEAVER CITY – The city council held their regular meeting on July 18, 2022 and approved the minutes of the last meeting and claims as presented. The council also approved six ideas that resulted in five building permits for the motel and apartments owned by Mike Kelly.

(Lincoln) July 15, 2022 –Vikram Menon of Omaha and Holden Fershee of Omaha have been selected as the 2022 American Legion Boys’ Nation delegates from Nebraska. 209 high school juniors from across Nebraska participated in the 82nd Session of The American Legion Cornhusker Boys’ State, June 5 – 11 at the University of Nebraska Lincoln downtown campus. The annual citizenship program, sponsored by the Nebraska American Legion, is designed to provide youths with a better understanding of how a city, county, and state governments operate.

(Lincoln) July 15, 2022 – Ethan Kinkle of Elgin has been selected as the 2022 Nebraska Cornhusker Boys’ State Samsung recipient. Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996.
