The 30th Anniversary of the Furnas County Home-Owned Carnival will happen next week, leading one Beaver City woman to reflect on its founding. Dorothy Botrell was one of several committee members who created the Carnival in 1993, she said.

Gosper County will celebrate its 150th anniversary with an eventon the courthouse lawn that evening. Founded in 1873 as the 59th Nebraska county, Gosper County was named after Nebraska Secretary of State John J.

In the 13 or so years I have lived in the area, I cannot remember a time when the it’s been so green trough late spring and into early summer. There probably was a time, but I can’t remember it, particularly down home in the Beaver Valley.

As the third largest economy in the world, Japan is a vital trade partner of the United States, especially agriculture producers in Nebraska’s Third District. According to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, more than half of Nebraska’s pork exports and more than a quarter of our state’s beef exports were purchased by Japan last year, totaling $156 million and $405 million respectively. Japan is Nebraska’s largest export market for pork and eggs, our second largest market for beef, and our third largest market for corn and overall ag exports.

In the mid 1800s, Nebraska was still barely touched by settlers migrating West for a new life. Our state was home to the prairies and rivers we see today. Over the next century, pioneers of all ethnic and religious backgrounds made the journey to Nebraska and chose to settle in its natural beauty.

The patient was young, healthy, and short of breath. She had not been sick recently, other than a minor cough. Her oxygen level was normal and her lungs sounded clear. Her heart rate was a little fast and she was breathing rather quickly, too. She was anxious about it, but she knew there was more to this than anxiety. Meanwhile, she was taking an antibiotic for bronchitis which did not seem to be helping. We did some additional tests, some blood work, to look for other possible causes. One test result gave us a big clue: her “d-dimer” was elevated. While not tied to a specific diagnosis, this gave us more reason to keep looking.

There were no fireworks in Elwood on July 4th! Instead, they will be on July 11th in conjunction with the Gosper County 150th Celebration at the Courthouse lawn. At this writing, it’s July 3rd! It can’t be!! That means that 2023 is over half over! And it seems like just a month ago that we started writing 2023 on our checks. June certainly went out with a bang.
