UNMC Colleges of Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions name top students. The University of Nebraska Medical Center has announced its spring 2023 dean’s list for students enrolled in nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and the allied health professions.

The Southern Valley Board of Education met on Monday, July 10, 2023 for their regular meeting. They began with an open hearing to amend the budget. Superintendent Bryce Jorgenson said he made changes to the activities fund and QCPUF due to some errors. This causes no tax change, but they still have to have the hearing to change it.

Golden Generation and Oxford Board discuss utilities

There was some lengthy discussion among members of the Golden Generation Board and the Village of Oxford Board of Trustees during the regular Village meeting on Monday, July 10, 2023. The Golden Generation board had come to a previous meeting to ask for help with their Oxford Utility bills. The item was tabled in order for the Trustees to look into the matter further.

COVID-19 Boosters

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) encourages residents to get their COVID- 19 booster shots to protect against severe illness from COVID-19. The virus that causes COVID-19 was first reported in 2019, with the first cases in Nebraska in 2020. Since then, waves of infections have spread around the country and made millions of people sick. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends being up to date on vaccinations that protect against COVID-19 to reduce the risk of becoming severely ill and needing hospital care.

{ OBITUARY } JANEICE “BIRDIE” JUMPS

Janeice “Birdie” C. Jumps, age 87 of Culbertson, passed away at the Wauneta Care Center in Wauneta, NE on July 6, 2023. She was born in McCook, NE on March 10, 1936, to Donald “Bud” and Merylin (Rippen) Fassler. She attended and graduated Culbertson High School in 1953. On February 22, 1955, Birdie was united in marriage to Robert Jumps. To this union four children were born, Mark, Trina, Craig, and Lisa. Robert preceded her in death in 1992.
