In the early morning hours of August 22 the Oxford Fire Department was dispatched to a large hay bale fire. They were dispatched around 3:30 am. The fire, just west of Oxford on highway 136, was under control around 5 am.

The annual Southwest Nebraska College & Career Fair at Cambridge Public Schools will be held on October 4th. 2023. This highly anticipated event aims to empower high school students by providing them with an opportunity to explore a wide range of career possibilities. Students will have the chance to engage with local businesses and educational institutions from 9 am to 11 am. Ashley Gerlach, the event coordinator, is committed to empowering students and fostering stronger connections between the education sector and the local community. Career exploration plays a crucial role in shaping students’ futures whether they attend college or enter the workforce after high school. Businesses and local high schools interested in participating are encouraged to register by emailing Ashley at ashley.gerlach@nebraska.gov before the September 18th deadline.

August 25, 2023, Edison, Neb. – Ag Valley Cooperative hosted Local Leadership in Agriculture Day on August 24th in Edison. FFA members from Arapahoe-Holbrook, Cambridge, and Southern Valley who are Juniors and Seniors in High School attended the event.. Students learned about the cooperative system, who Ag Valley Co-op is and why a cooperative is important to local economies.

USDA updates livestock disaster program payment rate to assist producers hard-hit by heat and humidity

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced recently it is updating the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) payment rate to support livestock producers in the Midwest who have lost cattle to the extreme heat and humidity experienced this summer. To help indemnify producers to reflect a trend toward higher cattle weights in feedlots, the 2023 LIP payment rate for beef calves over 800 pounds will increase from $1,244 per head to $1,618, an increase of $374.

Wreaths Across American invites all Americans to Wave the Flag on September 12th

COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine – August 24, 2023 – On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, between 9-10 am ET, national nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) is calling for the nation to join them in flag-waving to remind all Americans of the feeling we had – the pride in country, the unity and patriotism – which was expressed on the days following 9/11/01. The event will be hosted LIVE on Wreaths Across America Radio. The broadcasts will include interviews and stories from volunteers, supporters, Gold Star families, veterans, first responders and members of the next generation.
