CAMBRIDGE - A 22-point halftime defeicit was too much for Cambridge to overcome in a Homecoming loss to Ravenna (3-0) Friday night. Cambridge, which managed less than 50 yards in the first half, drove inside the Ravenna 20 all but one possession in the second half and scored 20 point in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough in a 30-20 loss that dropped the Trojans to 1-2.

With more than 300 yards rushing, the Hi-Line football team cruised to a 56-30 victory over visiting Sutton Friday. The Bulls led 42-6 at the half and cruised to the win behind 191 yards and six touchdowns from Ryker Evans and 99 yards rushing from Asher Hecox.

With five matches in five days, the Medicine Valley volleyball team moved to 6-5 on the season, collecting wins over Dundy County-Stratton on Thursday and Arthur County Saturday. The Raiders dropped the first match of the week last Tuesday at Bertrand in straight-sets, but swept DCS on Thursday to gain their fifth win of the year.

Leona Josephine Schievelbein, age 97, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. Leona was born on the family farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska on January 12, 1926, to Christoph Julius and Alvina Katherine (Walter) Haussler.

John Dennis Stearns Sr.

John Dennis Stearns Sr. was born on July 2, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska and passed away in his sleep on August 14, 2023 in Hereford, Arizona after a short illness. As a child of an Army Doctor, Dennis moved around most of his childhood. After WW2 the family eventually settled in Cambridge, Nebraska in 1946, where Dennis attended school and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1955. He was very active in sports during high school, earning All District in football and track. After one year of college, Dennis enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Graham Air Force Base in Florida and in San Antonio and Lubbock Texas as a jet pilot trainee. After leaving the Air Force, he went back to college earning degrees in science and history.
