Drawdown of Johnson Lake planned to begin October 26

Visitors to Johnson Lake State Recreation Area will notice the lowering of the lake level this fall. The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District will lower it in preparation of an outage at the Johnson No. 1 hydroplant.

Nebraska’s frenzied first years topic of Frontier County presentation

(July 28, 2023) – The wild and woolly first years of the Nebraska Territory is the subject of Nebraska historian Jeff Barnes’s presentation of “The (Mad) Queen of the Prairies: Frenzied First Years of the Nebraska Territory” for the Frontier County Historical Society at the Curtis Community Center on Sunday, September 24, at 2 p.m. The talk is sponsored by Humanities Nebraska.

CCC enrollment numbers increase

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Central Community College has announced that its total college-wide enrollment for the fall 2023 semester is 6,636, which is up from 5,883 students at the start of the fall 2022 semester.

Health Foundation Grant supports Community Healthcare & Hospice

In total, nearly $70,000 was granted from the Community Hospital Health Foundation in support of home care services provided by Community Healthcare and Hospice in fiscal year 2023. In addition to $66,000 of direct operational support, funds were provided for patient-specific supplies, needs, and educational resources.
Jennifer Wilcox, RN, is one of 19 staff members of Community Healthcare and Hospice who provide home health and hospice services seven counties in southwest Nebraska. The department is comprised of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, aides, social workers and a chaplain.

Rylen Lanning is Cornhusker Marching Band member

Rylen Lanning of Lincoln (formerly of Frontier County) is part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s 299-member Cornhusker Marching Band, which will make its 2023 debut Sept. 16 at Memorial Stadium with pregame and halftime performances at Nebraska’s football home opener against Northern Illinois.
