Four Frontier County 4-H members were among 189 4-H members who participated in the 4-H Fashion Show at Grand Island on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The Nebraska State Fair 4-H Fashion Show was divided into three, smaller fashion shows to accommodate the amazing runway space in Raising Nebraska. 4-H members modeled for a panel of judges and for a crowd estimated at 1,100 during the Nebraska State Fair.

Maywood Drivers Education Class of 2023

As these teens set out on their journey of driving independence, Maywood Public School strives to ensure a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to reduce their risk behind the wheel. Fifteen students successfully completed the Drivers Education Course at Maywood Public School in 2023. The Drivers Education Course consists of 20 classroom hours and five driving hours with a certified driving instructor. Once the classroom hours and drive time are completed, a written exam and a driving exam must be passed. Pictured are the 2023 Drivers Ed Graduates and Instructor. Eustis-Farnam Students Honored

Nebraska’s Department of Environment and Energy honored young artists at the state capital for their exceptional entries in the annual art contest. Thirteen students, including Jacki Koch and Ella Walters from Eustis-Farnam, were recognized for their creations based on the theme “Don’t Waste It!” Their thought-provoking artwork will be featured in the department’s official calendar. The event emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and showcased the impressive creativity and talent of Nebraska’s youth. Congratulations to Jacki, Ella, and all the participants for their remarkable contributions to raising awareness about sustainability in such a powerful way.

Dawson PPD sets new record for peak demand

(August 31, 2023) Lexington, Neb. – Dawson Public Power District set a new record for peak demand this summer, crushing the previous record. There was 252,619 KW of demand on the Dawson PPD’s grid at 5:41 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23 when temperatures were around 100 degrees. It is 11,904 kW higher than the old record, set in July 2012 during a summer of drought. The difference in the demand levels is roughly the equivalent of the power required for four villages.

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Sept. 1, 2023 — The University of Nebraska Foundation announced a record $354.5 million in new funds committed for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, as Only in Nebraska: A Campaign for Our University’s Future helped to inspire philanthropic support for the state’s only public university system. In addition, 58,072 donors made a gift, the second-best year for the number of individual supporters.

Farr Earns Spot in 2024 NDA Poultry Calendar

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) sponsored its annual Poultry Photo Contest, encouraging 4-H and FFA members to submit photos of their favorite “fine feathered friends.” Frontier County 4-H member Sofie Farr, of Stockville, was one of a dozen winners to get showcased in the 2024 online NDA poultry calendar. The 11 year-old’s photo entry was chosen for the front page of the calendar, along with a second image being showcased for the month of December.
