Red Willow GOP to meet April 23

The Red Willow County GOP (Republican Party) meets Tuesday, April 23, 2024, for their regular monthly meeting. All area Republicans are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting at Bedore Barn/Marlene’s Kitchen (38404 RD 719, McCook, NE). Newly elected Chairman, Brenden Funk, will conduct the meeting. Meet/Greet begins at 6:30 pm followed by the business meeting at 7:00 pm.

NHTSA and Law Enforcement remind drivers: Put the phone away or pay

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska is participating in a national high-visibility enforcement effort, April 4-8, 2024, to deter distracted driving. Law enforcement officers in region 7 and across the country will work together to enforce texting and distracted- driving laws and remind drivers: Put the Phone Away or Pay. This effort comes during April, which is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

ESU 11 Invention Conventionn 2024

The 33rd Annual Invention Convention hosted by Educational Service Unit #11 of Holdrege was held Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege. There were 106 inventions submitted from students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Participating schools included: Alma, Arapahoe, Axtell, Cambridge, Eustis-Farnam, Elwood, Holdrege, Legacy Christian, and Minden. This year’s winner of the Harold Warp Memorial Inventor’s Choice Award was Easton Larson from Axtell. His invention was the “All Seasons 3,000”.

Maintenance work to begin north of Edison on US-136

Weather permitting, a mill and fill project will begin April 22 on US-136, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Mill and fill is a process of removing deteriorated asphalt in preparation of placing an asphaltic patch to improve the roadway surface and drivability.
