Pool Cool is continuing this year in Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD). This program works with local swimming pools to train pool staff to provide children with education about skin cancer and sun safety during their swim lessons.

Frontier County Happy Tails 4-H Club meeting

The Frontier County Happy Tails 4-H Club met on Friday, July 5 at the Frontier County Fairgrounds in Stockville, NE. Ten current and “future” members of the club were present with their dogs. Business at the meeting was to confirm the slate of elected officers and to practice dog obedience, dog showmanship, and dog agility. Officers are as follows: President – Brianna Zysset, Vice President – Emmanuel Oberg, Treasurer – Mariah Oberg, Secretary – Erika Oliver, and Historian – Stone Lenz.
The members of Happy Tails 4-H Club welcome the public to attend both events to help support Frontier County youth! I don’t know just what happened on the last three news days, but end result, I didn’t get any news sent in. I’m still keeping busy, I’m winning some of the battles in my war on weeds, my one-row garden is looking good, I’m not too far behind on my mowing. We won’t talk about how far behind I am on my housekeeping.

Southern Valley School Board previews budget

The Southern Valley School Board was shown a preview of what their budget may look like for 2024-2025 by superintendent Bryce Jorgenson during their regular meeting on Monday, July 9, 2024. Jorgenson said they may have to do a public hearing to make the necessary increase. Their total tax request without needing a joint public hearing is $6,808, 636.01. But, Jorgenson said he will not know about total tax growth until August. He will then be able to put the actual numbers in place and if they need to go above the allowed 2.21% growth.

Early voting applications open for general election

Beginning today, July 8, county election offices are accepting early voting applications for the general election. A Nebraska voter can either download the early voting application from the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website here, or they can request an application from their county election office.
