Grand Marshalls for the Applefest Parade in Orleans on Saturday were Lee and Carol Bose. The 40th annual Orleans Applefest event packed the town on Saturday, October 5, 2024 with over 140 vendors, events and a parade.

The most that can be said about the weather is that it’s monotonous, highs in the 80’s and lows in the 50’s. And no moisture! My notes don’t show any moisture in the month of September, with no predictions of any coming in the near future.

The 37th Annual Life Chain was held on October 6th, 2024 in Arapahoe, Nebraska from 3-4 pm. The Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public display of pro-life conviction of all faiths and ages. On this day we joined thousands across Nebraska and this nation in honor of the millions of babies lives that are lost to abortion. This is especially important this year in view of the amendments on our very own Nebraska ballot that relate to abortion. The most important vote you can cast is at the state and local area. These will have the biggest impact on our state and and on our community. If Initiative #439 passes, it will enshrine abortion in our Nebraska Constitution as a fundamental right and undo 50 years of commonsense pro-life protections. Initiative #434 is an alternate, and protects Nebraska’s current 12-week pro-life law already in place. It allows for pro-life legislature to be passed in the future and Nebraska’s current pro-life protections to remain in place. Pray, Become informed, and Vote for Life.

It’s Show Time! Nebraska Pride Chorus of Sweet Adelines International once again presents its annual Show. It is “Let’s Sing Broadway” featur-ing great music from famous Broadway musicals that is sure to bring back fond memories for unforgettable songs. Under the direction of Connie Witt, women from seven central Nebraska towns join in bringing the fun filled afternoon or evening of a cappella singing Barbershop Style to Arapahoe, Kearney and North Platte. Witt has been directing the chorus for more than 10 years.

The Cambridge Junior class travelled to Red Cloud, Nebraska last week for the 150 years of Willa Cather and My Antonia celebration. The class is currently reading My Antonia making the trip more meaningful.
