Eagles cancel remainder of football season

SOUTHERN VALLEY Southern Valley announced Tuesday that it has cancelled the final three games of its football season. In a release, high school principal and activities director Josh Lanik said the Eagles canceled the final three varsity games and the remainder of the junior varsity schedule due to a lack of available players.

JOHNSON LAKE - the Southwest girls golf team captured the team title and had the overall individual champion at the Hi-Line Girls Golf Invite. Maddy Tryon shot a 103 to take first place and lead the Roughriders to the team title at Tuesday’s tournament.
The Roughriders’ Abby Sedlacek finished fourth at the Hi-Line Invite.

ARAPAHOE - The Southwest volleyball team traveled to Arapahoe last Tuesday, September 24, to take on the Arapahoe Warriors. The Roughriders rolled past the Warriors in three sets, going 25-17, 25-17, and 25-19.

Last Monday, September 30, six local schools traveled to Kearney to compete at the UNK Cross Country Invite: Cambridge, Hi-Line, Maywood- Hayes Center, Medicine Valley, Southern Valley, and Southwest.

NORTH PLATTE Amidst a brutal scheduling stretch, the Hi-Line football team again was able to hang around for a half, but a 22-point third quarter for North Platte St. Pat’s blew the game open and the Irish rolled away to a 50-14 win Friday.

CAMBRIDGE - Untimely penalties and a lack of execution proved costly Friday afternoon as Cambridge dropped its Homecoming football game, 36-16, to visiting Loomis. The 5-0 Wolves used a pair of second-quarter scores to build a 22-0 lead at the half, but Cambridge had opportunities to keep the score closer.

ALMA - In what ended up being the final game of Southern Valley’s football season, the Eagles dropped a road contest at Alma Friday, 52-0. Southern Valley enjoyed its best offensive success in terms of moving the football that it had all season, but the Eagles were unable to finish drives.
