The Frontier Stitchers Quilt Guild decided to make comfort quilts as their community project for 2025. Each member was to make one or more quilts to donate to the Frontier County Sheriff’s department for them to have on hand for emergency situations. (Grand Island, Neb.) – Central Community College students Jessica Braun of Holbrook and Chloe Smith of Kearney have been named 2025 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars. They will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

A granite monument stands along the north side of Highway 6/34 two miles east of Bartley. It commemorates nine Bohemian immigrants, three mothers and six children, who were killed in a flash flood nearby on May 26, 1885.

With four teams entering Saturday’s McCook Volleyball Invitational with two or fewer losses, the competition was stacked at the tournament. Southwest went 2-1 on the day, placing second, while Cambridge and Maywood/ Hayes Center each won one match and lost two.

CAMBRIDGE - Facing its biggest challenge to date this season, the Cambridge football team again passed with flying colors Thursday night, dealing Bertrand its first loss of the season while improving to 4-0 with a 56-6 victory.

ARAPAHOE - A highly competitive team race came down to a point on the girls side and 12 area athletes earned medals at the Arapahoe cross country meet Thursday. Cambridge edged Maywood-Hayes Center by a point, 29-30, for the girls team title and Hi-Line was third with 34 points.
