Fall festivals planned this weekend in Beaver City, Curtis

Both the Eager Beaver Days celebration and the Curtis Fall Festival will take place this weekend. Eager Beaver Days is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with a parade Saturday morning at 10:30 followed by games in the Square, along with a car show, food and turtle races.

Tri Valley’s Pro-Am raises $46,000

CAMBRIDGE - The 31st annual Tri Valley Medical Foundation Pro-Am golf tournament was another success as the tournament raised more than $46,000 for the foundation. Twenty-eight teams took part in the tournament last week with Coppermill Steakhouse finishing the Championship Flight Winner and Horizon Boys the winner of the First Flight.

Southwest makes statement with dominant victory at Arthur County

ARTHUR - The Southwest football team hit the road for its first real test of the season, a top 10 showdown at Arthur County Friday afternoon. While it took some time for the offense to settle in, the Roughriders’ defense dominated from the start and allowed the team time to find its footing.
Southwest golfers Ella Cure and Abby Sedlacek each posted scores bette than the previous school record with scores of 96 and 97, respectively, at the Lexington Invite Friday.

BARTLEY - The Southwest volleyball team is starting to have that look again. The Roughriders, who went undefeated through last year’s regular season, steamrolled four opponents over the past week to improve to 10-0 on the season entering Saturday’s trip to the McCook Invite.

Trojans move to 3-0 as district play arrives

CAMBRIDGE - The Cambridge football finally popped the top on its home schedule Friday night, welcoming a young Axtell team short on depth and experience. From the outset, the Trojans’ size overwhelmed the Wildcats as Cambridge rushed their way to 506 yards and a 60-0 lead at the half before taking a 68-0 victory.
Cambridge’s Devan Rodriguez led the Trojans with 14 carries Friday night against Axtell. The out-of-district portion of the schedule is now complete and Cambridge overwhelmed those opponents, scoring 68 points in each of the three games. District competition begins Thursday at home with 3-0 Bertrand coming to town. The Vikings scored 78 points in a home victory over Brady last week.
