The Red Willow County GOP (Republican Party) will meet Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Marlene’s Kitchen (38404 Road 719, McCook, NE). Corky Krizek will lead the Constitution Class to begin at 5:00 pm. Meet/Greet will begin at 6:30 pm followed by the business meeting at 7:00 pm.

Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met in regular session at the Community Building with 10 members present. After Presentation of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer, Preamble and a moment of silence in memory of 911, Pres. Witte called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.

Since last week’s column, Summer came back! Temps were right up there nudging the triple digits. But, also in the last week, we have had more rain. The gauge here on The Hill showed right at a half inch Sunday evening. As usual, we’ll take it!

9/8/25: Municipal Ordinance Violation, 112 Penn St., Cambridge, NE: Report of 3 dogs chased woman back in her home. On Monday, Sept. 8, a Furnas County Sheriff’s deputy was bitten while responding to a report of dangerous animal near the 200 block of Penn Street in Cambridge.

The Cambridge Economic Development meeting was called to order at 12:02 p.m. Open meeting laws noted in the City Office.

Its official – the Tri Valley Hospital System Auxiliary has brought out the fall and winter merchandise! Left over items from the successful spring/summer sack sales were boxed for Orphan Grain Train in Grand Island, along with Catholic Charities and Goodwill. Auxiliary members worked for three big days freshening up the store and brought out the fall/winter items. They appreciate the hospital for providing the lunch on Monday; the First State Bank on Tuesday and First Central Bank on Wednesday, both lunches being at the Senior.

Thanks to the Trees for Nebraska Towns Initiative, an effort of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and the Nebraska Forest Service, the Eustis Tree Board received 10 trees for the Beautify Eustis – Plant Street Trees project.

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. All members were present for the meeting. After the Pledge of Allegiance and the Open Meeting Law announcement, the council approved the Consent Agenda, which included the approval of the minutes from the September 2, 2025, City Council Meeting, the claims, as well as the Budget Hearing Minutes from September 2, 2025, and the Library Board Minutes from September 10, 2025. The Consent Agenda also included the Planning Commission Minutes from September 10, 2025, and a Special Designated Liquor License for the Arapahoe Municipal Golf Course & Country Club for a Wedding Reception to be held on October 18, 2025.

STOCKVILLE - The joint public hearing for property tax increases in Frontier County will be held Thursday evening at the Frontier County Courthouse in Stockville. As required by State Statute, those political subdivisions who are proposing a tax request increase of more than 2 percent are required to have a representative attend and present at the meeting.
