The Nebraska Public Power District is one of 21 utilities licensed to operate a nuclear plant under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. There are currently 94 reactors licensed to operate in the U.S. At the present time, Nebraska is home to only one nuclear power generator, the Cooper Nuclear Station located near Brownville.
