The Maywood/Hayes Center boys basketball team picked up its second win of the season Saturday night with a win over Southwest. Southwest took an early 12-8 before MHC warmed up from long distance.
CAMBRIDGE - Facing off against a pair of RPAC West foes to begin the season, the Cambridge boys basketball team earned a split on opening week, downing Hitchcock County, 75-59, before dropping a 77-61 decision to Dundy County Stratton.
ARAPAHOE - The Arapahoe boys basketball team dropped its season opener to Overton Thursday, 76-22. The Eagles jumped in front with 26 points in the opening quarter and rolled away to victory as the Warriors struggled to get stops or make baskets.
The Southwest boys basketball team got the season off to a hot start Dec. 4 against Medicine Valley, but it was the Raiders who finished the night on fire for an overtime win.
No one would claim the first game of the season was pretty for the Southwest and Medicine Valley girls basketball teams Both teams struggled to score during a disjointed first quarter. The Raiders tallied the first five points of the game before Southwest found the basket. Free throws were common over the first eight minutes. MV made 2-8 from the charity stripe while the Roughriders hit 7-12.
Maywood/Hayes Center’s girls basketball team got the better of Southwest Saturday night in Hayes Center. The teams traded baskets early before MHC’s press got to be too much for Southwest.
CAMBRIDGE - After opening the season with a pair of subdistrict foes, the Cambridge girls basketball team has a clear focus on where it needs to improve ball security. Turnovers plagued Cambridge in both its season opener at Hitchcock County Thursday and in their home tilt with Dundy County Stratton on Friday, but the Trojans were able to overcome the giveaways in a 52-42 win on opening night.
ARAPAHOE - An explosive second quarter helped the Arapahoe girls basketball team to a lead and propelled them to victory on a night when shots otherwise weren’t falling. The Warriors shot just 23 percent from the field, but scored 17 points in the second quarter to build a 24-17 lead at the break.
