Stopping Payments to Illegal Migrants

Body
Did you know the federal government operates a little-known bank account that isn’t subject to annual oversight from Congress, yet pays out billions of dollars in settlements a year? It sounds unbelievable, but it’s true. The Judgment Fund is an obscure government account the U.S.

Resetting the Internal Clock

Body
Daylight savings time has just ended and now everyone has had the chance to “fall back” to standard time. While many people enjoy that extra hour of sleep that comes each fall, 63 percent of Americans say that they would support the elimination of seasonal time changes and there are some health issues to consider. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine also supports this stance due to the sleep disruption that occurs related to this biannual change.

Nebraska’s Global Reach

Body
Nebraskans often talk about how we feed the world. It’s true now more than ever. The crops and livestock we grow and the goods we make reach far-flung places across the globe. Diners in Japan, drivers in Germany, and farmers in Africa all benefit from the products we make and grow. Our international relationships are having a big impact. Over the past decade, Nebraska exports have totaled almost $10 billion per year. Continuing to grow international trade will create more great-paying jobs to keep our kids and grandkids in Nebraska and attract more people here to our state.

Senator Murman’s Legislative Update

Body
Fall is here. Crisp autumn evenings, the changing of the leaves, and the mad dash to get the crops out of the field. It can’t be said often enough—there is no place like Nebraska. Some of the discussion during the recent special session on redistricting brought up what appears to be a growing divide between urban and rural areas of our state. In this frame of mind, Lincoln and everything east is considered “urban” and everything west of Lincoln is “rural”.

Spontaneity is the spice of life

Body
Spontaneity is the spice of life. A few years ago, on a whim, my wife and I made a decision to purchase season tickets to the Omaha Orpheum Theater. It grants us the opportunity to take in about eight touring Broadway shows a year. It’s been the perfect escape for us. But the pandemic put that on hold for about 20 months. That was until last Thursday, when we were able to return to Omaha for our second time seeing “Hamilton.”

Service and Sacrifice

Body
It would be hard to overstate the relief Americans felt in 1918 when they heard the “war to end all wars” was over. World War I, the deadliest conflict in history to that point, had ended.
