We’ve had moisture! I’ve lost track of just how much, and reports over the area have varied, but the big thing is that we’ve all had some wonderful moisture! And we’ll take more!

The Annual Tri-state Antique Engine and Thresher show was held last weekend in Bird City, Kansas. Our own Virginia Grafton was selected as the 2022 Thresher Queen. She was crowned on the opening day on Thursday. The dress she wore was the one she made for the Lebanon Centennial in 1973. It still fit and looked like new. Back at that time, Bob Dole gave her a gracious compliment on that dress. She rode on a steam engine in Saturday’s parade. On Saturday, August 6, she will ride in the Cheyenne County Fair Parade in St. Francis.

Family and friends gathered Sunday afternoon at the Lebanon Cemetery for graveside military services for Jim Gollehon. Services were conducted by the Lebanon American Legion. Following the services, a light luncheon was served at the Legion Hall. Jim, 75, died Tuesday, July 26th at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Many of you heard of the tragic loss of our great-grandson, Augustine Seberger. Little Gus, 18 months old, died on July 17th after he failed to recover from a choking accident. He choked on the stickiness of a peanut butter sandwich, something he was quite accustomed to eating. He was the son of Tim and Jill Seberger of Omaha, and the grandson of Cindy (Haag) and Steve Seberger. Rosary and Funeral services were held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha on Friday and Saturday, July 21st and 22nd. Those attending from the area included Steve and Shari Haag and most of their family, Colleen Michaelis, Jeanine Haag, and myself.

These last two weeks have been rather busy, as Susan, Katie, Sarah and Melody Kempel of Casselton, North Dakota, have been here for their annual summer visit. One of the first things we did was not in our plans, the need to go to Omaha for a funeral. We went Thursday for the Rosary and attended the funeral services on Friday for little Gus. All of our family returned home Friday after the services. As usual, Susan and the girls helped me with numerous

As usual, Susan and the girls helped me with numerous projects on my list. Also as usual, Greg couldn’t come. Someone had to stay home and man the winery and store. After lots of projects done and games played, Susan and girls headed home Saturday morning. Sure is quiet around here now. But I have had some of the local great-grands come in and out a few times.

Happy Birthday to Adam Haag on July 31st, Ken Morris on August 1st, Allan Powell on August 2nd, Jack Baker on the 6th, Susan (Moon) Kempel on the 9th, Frances Warner, and Deanna Harrison on the 10th, Tyler Ellis on the 11th and Shawn Pew on the 13th. Happy Anniversary to Steve and Shari Haag on August 4th, Kent and Carol Nicholson on the 8th, and Ken and Christie Morris and Dick and Jacci Remington on the 10th.
