Two new board members were sworn in for the Village of Bartley on Tuesday, March 11. Darlene Brooks (pictured left) and Sheri Hink-Wagner (pictured right) were selected by the board to serve the unexpired 2-year terms that were left vacant due to a recent recall election. Brooks and Hink-Wagner were sworn in as the last item on the agenda of Bartley’s regular board meeting.

Cambridge’s Fairview Cemetery Board has a goal to acquire permanent grave markers for all the unmarked graves at the cemetery. Board members include Virginia Roberts, Jessica Carbaugh, John McLeod, Sue Witte, and Ken Colson.

Backyard flock in Dawson County tests positive for Avian Influenza

Kearney – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has confirmed that a backyard flock in the Two Rivers Public Health Department District has tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The affected birds were depopulated to prevent further transmission of the virus. This latest case brings the total number of impacted backyard flocks in Nebraska to 4 affecting approximately 219 birds.
The Mission Mall in Arapahoe reopened on Monday, March 17 after completely changing inventory from winter to spring! “Hop on in” to see all the changes!

A group of 17 5th-8th graders traveled to North Platte to compete in the Western Nebraska Regional Science Fair on March 12. Congratulations to Benjamin Morton who was recognized for his his Environmental Project, Scientific Research, and State Qualifier status. Ben will now move on to complete at the Nebraska State Science Fair!

Southwest Senior Trip includes a day at the Nebraska Unicameral

Southwest seniors enjoyed an exciting day at the Nebraska Unicameral as part of their senior trip. Students observed the Legislature in action and participated in a meet and greet with Secretary of State Bob Evnen, State Senator Dave Murman, and Governor Jim Pillen. The trip also included a tour of the Capitol Building, highlighting the historic Supreme Court Room.

NCTA team travels to Purdue

The NCTA team traveled to Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, to compete on March 8 and earned the top team ranking and overall individual rankings of 1st – Leah Schutz, Elwood; 2nd – Jay Mintling, Hayes Center; 4th – Tyler Keener, Mitchell; and 5th – Owen Harb, Grand Island.

What to know about measles

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) encourages residents to know if they are protected against measles. Measles is a very contagious disease that causes high fever and rash and may cause other serious complications.
Congratulations to the Medicine Valley Elementary Quiz Bowl Team for their 2nd place finish at the Eustis-Farnam meet last week, achieving a record of 4-1.
