McCook —It literally takes an act of Congress to transfer federal land to counties. A bill passed in the Senate last week that allows for the transfer of 77.2 acres at two Southwest Nebraska reservoirs from the federal Bureau of Reclamation (BoR) to Red Willow and Hitchcock Counties.

Many respiratory illnesses go around in the fall and winter in southwest Nebraska. Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) has seen a rise in cases of respiratory illness during the first two weeks of December.

OXFORD – The Holdregebased Prairie Quilts of Honor quilters presented area veterans quilts on December 16, 2024, at the Oxford old school. Donn Kaup of Oxford, the Post 219 Legion Commander, assisted in identifying local veterans and organizing the event.

OXFORD – For the past two years, members of the local Legion Auxiliary have organized efforts to place wreaths on the graves of veterans as part of the Wreaths Across America program. Prior to the national event that was held at more than 4,600 locations on December 14, a Wreaths Across America truck delivered nine boxes of wreaths in Oxford.
