The Maywood FFA had Ag in the Classroom with the first grade on Friday, December 6. They read the book Night Tree and made bagel bird feeders they hung outside.

Members of the Southern Valley Band took part in Tuba Christmas at the University of Nebraska Fine Arts Recital Hall at Kearney on Saturday, December 7. They wore ugly sweaters and took part in the free concert. A total of 89 people were part of the tuba band.

The Elwood FCCLA students delivered blankets that were made at their district conference and other small blankets to their local Health and Human Services offices this week. They will be used for children in difficult circumstances.

First State Bank in Holbrook held their Christmas Open House last week with lots of goodies. Visiting with Ida Soncksen is Dee Glanzer and Bruce and Sue Helms.

On Saturday, December 14, area residents will have the opportunity to honor our veterans by attending the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony at Cambridge Cemetery. The program, led by the Cambridge American Legion Auxiliary, begins at 11:00 a.m.

Santa came to town in Oxford on Wednesday, December 4 as part of the Oxford Chamber of Commerce soup supper and light parade. Santa visited with children and then rode through the parade.

The Holbrook Lion’s Club held their Christmas Appreciation dinner on Saturday, December 7 at the Community Building. The dinner was in appreciation of the residents of Holbrook and the surrounding area. Winners of the door prizes were: Rylee Houser, ham; Tom DeVries, ham; Nancy Mantano, turkey; Loida Whitson, turkey; Erlene Davis, centerpiece; Dale Whitson, centerpiece; Cindy Bowers, centerpiece; Dale Long, centerpiece; Jerry Foster, centerpiece; Jeanne Schroeder, centerpiece; Gary Metzger, platter.

The Arapahoe Public Library received a book shaped bench in memory of Katie Sisson, wife of Brian Sisson and mother of Graham, Harper and Millie. Her uncle, Mike Harms of Wilcox NE made the bench to honor Katie’s love of reading.
