Kearney – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has confirmed that a backyard flock in the Two Rivers Public Health Department District has tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The affected birds were depopulated to prevent further transmission of the virus.

A group of 17 5th-8th graders traveled to North Platte to compete in the Western Nebraska Regional Science Fair on March 12. Congratulations to Benjamin Morton who was recognized for his his Environmental Project, Scientific Research, and State Qualifier status.

Southwest seniors enjoyed an exciting day at the Nebraska Unicameral as part of their senior trip. Students observed the Legislature in action and participated in a meet and greet with Secretary of State Bob Evnen, State Senator Dave Murman, and Governor Jim Pillen.

The Eustis-Farnam Elementary Quiz Bowl Team secured 3rd place at their home invite. .

The NCTA team traveled to Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, to compete on March 8 and earned the top team ranking and overall individual rankings of 1st – Leah Schutz, Elwood; 2nd – Jay Mintling, Hayes Center; 4th – Tyler Keener, Mitchell; and 5th – Owen Harb, Grand Island.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) encourages residents to know if they are protected against measles. Measles is a very contagious disease that causes high fever and rash and may cause other serious complications.
