HOLBROOK - After a couple months of waiting on a subpoena, the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office is no closer to finding who skimmed more than $20,000 from the Village of Holbrook through its Quickbooks account.

INDIANOLA - The Indianola City Council met Monday for its regular meeting and held a long discussion on a trailer house that was broken down on the south end of downtown. About a month ago, the trailer was being moved away from the RV park located on the south side of Indianola, but an axle broke and the trailer was left to rest at the corner of Fourth and C Streets.

CAMBRIDGE - A former employee of Cross Creek Golf Links in Cambridge appeared in Furnas County Court last week and was arraigned on three felony counts, including theft by deception of over $5,000, a Class IIA felony.

Annually, the Cambridge Lions Club leads a food and toy drive for those members of our community who are in need. The effort reaches over 60 households in nine different communities throughout the area.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) will be offering Vaccines for Children at public clinics in December. Anyone two months of age and older are invited to get their vaccinations. Flu shots will still be available for anyone 6 months of age and older. Getting a flu shot now will provide protection for the rest of the flu season.

LINCOLN, Nebraska ( In catching my breath from the Thanksgiving weekend I forgot about gathering everyone’s news until it was too late. So, save it for next week.

Have you ever wished you could step through that old farmhouse door and visit your grandmother’s kitchen? Out at the Buffalo Bill Ranch (built in 1886), the Maywood Country Gardners took on the challenge of decorating the historic kitchen on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Keeping the old customs in mind, the fifteen member club gathered items from the prairie to add a festive holiday touch to warm up the kitchen, right down to pie crust rolled out for cookie and pie making. Tall grasses, dried flowers, pinecones and cedar boughs cover every window sill and table top. The tree is decorated with dried orange slices, strings of popcorn, wildflowers tied in red ribbon, feathers, bird nests, hand crocheted ornaments, and old cookie cutters which are nestled in tree branches. Each room of the mansion on the prairie is decorated by different clubs and organizations. So come on in, sip some apple cider, and step back in time this Christmas.
