Area Veterans Receive Quilts of Honor

BEAVER CITY – Fourteen quilts were presented to area veterans on Tuesday at the Escher Senior Center by the Holdrege-based Prairie Quilts of Honor. The quilting group has presented 720 quilts and matching pillowcases to mostly Phelps, Harlan, Furnas, and Gosper County veterans, with some also given to veterans from Kearney and Franklin Counties.

While there’s no talking out of school, an old landmark that has weathered many storms is about to graduate with a degree in the 3 R’s: Revival, Restoration, and Relocation and accept a new position as the home of Indianola Historical Society’s Museum. Built in the 1880s, the building known as the Mallek Schoolhouse for years, was later renamed District 27.

Clay Jordan: 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award

Clay Jordan, of McCook, has been selected to receive the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award from Mid-Plains Community College. Jordan was nominated by MPCC cabinet members based on his ongoing support to the institution.
