NDOT announces $18 million in Federal grants

Aug. 19, 2024 (Lincoln, Neb.) — On June 28 and July 26, 2024, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $18 million to 24 airports across the state. The grant funds are part of a nationwide initiative to enhance airfield safety and infrastructure.

NHTSA reminds drivers: Drive sober or get pulled over

From August 16 through September 2, which includes the Labor Day holiday weekend, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, will be working alongside local law enforcement for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high-visibility enforcement campaign. The goal is to deter impaired driving, arrest impaired drivers detected on the roads, and prevent the tragedies seen in previous Labor Day weekends from happening again. NHTSA wants to remind drivers that in all 50 states that it is illegal to drive while impaired by any substance, including drugs.

Southwest School Board prepare for 2024-25 school year

The Southwest School’s Board of Education met for their August meeting on August 12 at 7:30 p.m. After approving the agenda and Old Business Items, the board discussed the previously tabled Policy 6040 Prekindergarten (Preschool or Early Childhood) Program. The item was tabled at last month’s meeting to make the necessary changes before its approval.

Cambridge Lions donates to backpack program

The Cambridge Lions made a $500 donation to the Cambridge Public Schools weekend food backpack program. This program provides a backpack of food for kids to take home over the weekend so they return to school on Monday morning rested, fed, and ready to learn.
