April 13, 2023 Cambridge Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met in regular session at the Community Building at 2:20 p.m. with 8 members present.

Artists from 19 area high schools competed in McCook Community College’s annual paint in competition Friday at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center. This year’s theme was “Invention, Industry, Progress.” The paint in was judged by North Platte Community College art instructor Richard Haneline.

The Gosper County Senior Center is in full swing and has coffee drinkers in at 8:30, pool-players in the midmorning, exercise machines that are in motion, a puzzle on the table, domino game to get started after lunch and of course great noon dinners for you to enjoy with friendly neighbors. The staff will continue to make your visit here, either while participating in the activities or eating our noon meal, as positive and enjoyable as can be. Thanks for your support.

Arapahoe’s St. Germanus Catholic Church and Lady Fatima Shrine was the host to the Lincoln Diocese Council of Catholic Women’s Conference (LDCCW) held Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15th. Father Thomas McGuire (far right) was the moderator for the 2 day spiritual meetings and conference for women across the state of Nebraska, south of the Platte River from Nebraska City to the Colorado border. Father Kenneth Weirs held mass with meetings following on Saturday. The ladies of the local church prepared dinner for around 54 people.

The annual Punchy in Pink Spring Round Up hosted by the NCTA Ranch Horse Team at the Kiplinger Arena in McCook lived up to the goal of showcasing and developing excellent horsemanship and raising funds for those battling breast cancer in the ranching community.

The Arapahoe Gala was held Saturday at the Ella Missing Community Center. The event was a huge success as it will help with the cost of new playground equipment at the school. Several people enjoyed a meal, visiting, playing the ring toss, and bidding on the live and silent auctions.

Inducted into the Arapahoe High School Honor Society recently were (l-r) Sage Larson, Trenton Roskop, Cadence Carpenter and Jacob Moore. .

The students at Arapahoe enjoyed going outside last week to check out the FFA Field Day event. There were several kinds of animals to learn about and tractors to check out.

For school administrators, a decade ago or so, there were teaching positions that were always a challenge to fill, but there were some spots that were not a sweat. Positions such as math or science might only garner a few applications, but a physical education position that included coaching opportunities might return dozens of interested parties.
