INDIANOLA - The Southwest Board of Education met briefly Monday night to undergo its annual reorganization and to discuss a couple other matters in executive session. After approval of the minutes and claims and presentation of the Treasurer's Report, the Board adjourned sine die and elected new officers for the 2022 calendar year, which will remain the same as the prior year.

BARTLEY – The village board held their regular meeting on January 11, 2022. The lion’s share of the two-hour meeting was spent discussing Ordinance 1003, the Zoning and Subdivision Regulations and Zoning Maps Plan.

A wildfire spread across northwest Kansas in December affecting ranchers who lost hundreds of cattle, and feed in what is being called the ‘Four County Fire’. The major weather event included winds, that burned an estimated 163,000 acres of farm and ranch land in Rooks, Ellis, Osborne and Russell County. Due to wind gusts reaching up to 100 mph, the toppling of power lines took place, sparking the wildfires. Drought conditions also played a role in the wildfire outbreaks.

10 years ago In the review the Cambridge Economic Development Board announced Cambridge General Store officially opened its doors on May 19 th . The purple house, used to sit at the corner of Shole Avenue and Highway 6/34 saw its final day on July 6 as the pile was burned and buried.

10 years ago Gosper County Senior Center recently celebrated their 25 th year. They honored the Volunteers Brunch with the Richard’s Family entertaining them.

10 years ago In the review Tom Sughroue, Steve McConville, and Kevin Potthoff were sworn in as newly elected members of the Southwest School Board. In the review an explosion caused damage to a leg to the top of the Bartley elevator.

25 Years Ago January 2, 1997 Stories from the year 1996 were re-visited. The Southern Valley District #540 School Board approved dress code modifications for Southern Valley Schools, effective at the start of the second semester.
