Southwest Board of Education reorganizes at brief meeting

INDIANOLA - The Southwest Board of Education met briefly Monday night to undergo its annual reorganization and to discuss a couple other matters in executive session. After approval of the minutes and claims and presentation of the Treasurer's Report, the Board adjourned sine die and elected new officers for the 2022 calendar year, which will remain the same as the prior year.

A wildfire spread across northwest Kansas in December affecting ranchers who lost hundreds of cattle, and feed in what is being called the ‘Four County Fire’. The major weather event included winds, that burned an estimated 163,000 acres of farm and ranch land in Rooks, Ellis, Osborne and Russell County. Due to wind gusts reaching up to 100 mph, the toppling of power lines took place, sparking the wildfires. Drought conditions also played a role in the wildfire outbreaks.
