Three wheat variety plots will be the focus of field days coming for this area. K-State Research and Extension, Twin Creeks District and Kansas Wheat Alliance along with Larry and Brian Miller of Dresden and Roger May and Family of Oberlin and Gayle & Denton Haag will host several wheat tours. There will be a variety of speakers and researchers at each location. The Miller’s plot tour will be Monday evening, June 14th at 7:00 pm. Location is from Dresden, Kansas: travel South on Highway 23 to the #9 highway intersection, then travel East on #9 to Road 2000. On the next day, June 15th, the May Family plot tour will begin with a breakfast at 7:00 am at the 4-H building on the Decatur County fairgrounds then at 8:00 am will move to the plot site 2 ½ miles west of Oberlin on Highway 36. Finally, the last plot stop will be held south of Lebanon, Nebraska to start at 11:30 am. You can take US Highway 36 East of Oberlin to the Kanona Road, Rd 495 and proceed North 9 miles; then go 4 miles East on Road 308 (Lyle Road) then 1.5 miles North. From Lebanon, Nebraska go 1.5 miles West then 5 miles South. The Gayle & Denton Haag plot is a KSU wheat breeding nursery, replicated variety performance trial, along with a variety of wheat management and fertility trials. A light sandwich lunch will be served with thanks to Ag Valley Co-op and Decatur Cooperative Association and Kansas Wheat Alliance. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider recommendations for a 2022 mountain lion hunting season, as well as a 2021 river otter harvest season, at its June 11 meeting in Chadron. The meeting begins at 8 a.m. Mountain time at Chadron State Park’s Central Building, 15951 U.S. Hwy. 385. Staff will recommend a mountain lion season in the Pine Ridge, identical to the 2021 season, that would have a maximum harvest of four mountain lions, with a sublimit of two females. The objective is to allow a harvest opportunity for mountain lions that allows the population to remain resilient and healthy while limiting future growth or moderately reducing numbers.

Lexington – On June 9, 2021, Dawson Area Development’s Dawson Area Youth Leadership program will host a ceremony in Lexington at the Majestic Theatre to honor 12 youth for their successful completion of the program’s coursework and other requirements.

June (McCook, Neb.) — Weather permitting, a chip seal project will begin June 8 on N-23, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Chip seal is an application of an asphalt binder to a roadway surface followed by an aggregate.

The Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 7, 2021. Council Member Tony Groshong was not present for the meeting. A public hearing was held for a Conditional Use Permit for Dean Cope/High-speed Logistics, LLC. There were no comments. A motion was made to accept exhibit 1 as Council’s written exhibit of facts. The motion passed. The Conditional Use Permit was approved. After closing the Public Hearing, Council approved the consent agenda.
