10 years ago Southwest wrestlers Tanner Teel and Tyler Van Pelt each earned medals in Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament, 5th place for Tanner and 6th place for Tyler. Southwest placed first overall in the Farm Management Contest.

10 years ago Furnas County farmer LaVern Banzhaf was the winner of the $2,500 America’s Farmers Grow Communities program sponsored by Monsanto and Cambridge FFA was the selected recipient. Park Board member Virginia Roberts informed the City Council that with $20,000 received from Kitty Perkins Foundation nearly three years ago, they have purchased an original limited edition bronze sculpture by local artist Sondra Jonson entitled “The American Farmer.” 20 years ago Work is progressing on Assisted Living Facility in Cambridge and completion is planned for first of August.

Merle Jane Harpst awards presented

The prestigious Tri Valley Medical Foundation annual Merle Jane Harpst Awards were presented to one licensed and one non-licensed Tri Valley Health System employee at a recognition event held at Tri Valley Health System on February 17th. The award is presented by the Tri Valley Medical Foundation and was established in 1998 to honor the late Merle Jane Harpst and her 20 plus years as an employee and administrator at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Tri Valley Health System.

Tri Valley Health System Diabetes Support Group to meet Monday, March 1

The Tri Valley Health System monthly diabetes support group will be held on Monday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Meadowlark Meeting Room, which can be accessed through the Wellness Center entrance or the main entrance. Tri Valley Health System Dr. Michael Powell will be presenting “Diabetes Medication: Why do I take this one?”. Tri Valley Health System invites anyone with the diagnosis of diabetes as well as a support person to join the free support group.
