Carlyle Burton

Carlyle Burton, the third of six children born to Lyman Burton and Hazel (Johnson) Burton, was born on April 23, 1936, in Bartley, Nebraska. His siblings were Richard, Truman, Wesley, Dyle, and Lolita. He graduated from Bartley High School in 1952.

Carlyle enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 and served until 1960. After working various jobs, his commitment to serving his country and his love of the Air Force led him to reenlist in 1963. He served until 1970 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

While serving in the Air Force, Carlyle learned to work with computers.

He used that experience and knowledge to build a technology career that took him to Connecticut, Georgia, Texas, and Colorado. After retiring, he lived in McCook and Indianola, Nebraska, and spent several years in Alaska. As his health declined, he moved to the North Platte Care Center in North Platte, Nebraska, where he lived until his death on September 27, 2026, at age 90.

Carlyle was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Richard, Truman, Wesley and Lolita.

He is survived by his daughter and grandsons, Miranda Mitzi Harmon and Drake and Orion Harmon all of Alaska; brother and sister-inlaw, Dyle and Beverly Burton of Bartley; as well many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside services with full military honors were held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at the Bartley Cemetery in Bartley, Nebraska.
