Carol was born in Oxford on January 15, 1935, the third of four children, born to Emmett and Ella (Heller) Maaske.

On June 10, 1952, Carol was united in marriage to Eldon D. “Hoot” Gibson in Holdrege and they were blessed with four children: Gary, Joella, John, and Stacee. In the early part of their marriage, they traveled quite a bit following Hoot’s career. Carol enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crossstitching making each of the grandchildren an afghan blanket. Above all else Carol adored being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served on the Board for South Platt NRD, the Chamber of Commerce in Oxford, and the Oxford School Board for eight years.

Carol was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege and enjoyed watching church and singing from her hymnal when she wasn’t able to attend in person.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Gary Gibson in 2015; two brothers: Cleatus Maaske in infancy; and Kenneth Maaske; one brotherin- law, Noel Gibson and wife, Ardis “Gracie”; and two sisters-in-law, Sara Reynolds and husband, Art; and Leora Weatherwax.

Carol leaves to celebrate her life: three children: Jody Curtis and her husband, Galen of Big Lake, Missouri; John Gibson and his wife, Debbie of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Stacee Stabenow and her husband, Shane of Holdrege; daughter-in-law, Jeri of Lincoln, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith Maaske and wife, Bobbie; one sister-inlaw, June Maaske; along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
