A Funeral Service for Darrell L. Gregg was held on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Kearney First Baptist Church, Kearney, Nebraska, with Pastor Shawn Dougherty officiating.

A Graveside Service was held at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery, Bertrand, Nebraska, with Military Honors.

Darrell Lester Gregg, 89, of Kearney, formerly of Bertrand, passed on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Darrell was born in Hastings, Nebraska on November 16, 1935, the youngest of three children born to Lester Wilford and Irma May (McCoy) Gregg. He was raised on the family farm and attended Gosper School in Gosper County, Nebraska, until the sixth grade. Darrell attended Arapahoe Public School and graduated with the class of 1953.

On January 29, 1955, Darrell enlisted into the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort MacArthur, California for basic training. He was honorably discharged and transferred to the United States Army Reserve of Nebraska Military District.

On February 9, 1958, Darrell was united in marriage to Ruth Jeannine Arnold in Norton, Kansas. The union was blessed with four children: Michael, Monte, Matthew, and Angela.

The family made their home on the farm south of Bertrand in Gosper County, where together, they engaged in farming.

Following his discharge, Darrell continued to farm in Gosper County. In 1985, he began over the road trucking for PIC, locally and throughout the United States.

He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and toy tractors. Darrell drove his 1931 John Deere D tractor in many parades. He also enjoyed woodwork and ceramics, and was an active member of Agape School class and a weekly Men’s Bible study. Darrell was a member of the Kearney First Baptist Church and was baptized by immersion by Pastor Stanley Murdoch.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; two sisters: Elaine Warner and her husband, Duane; and Beverly Reiss and her husband, Leland; six brothers-in-law: Clarence Arnold; Chester Arnold; Dorrance Arnold and his wife, Evelyn; Dorsey Arnold and his wife, Beverly; Eugene Arnold; and Richard Arnold; and three sisters-in-law: Fern Clapp and her husband, Bill; Gladys Arnold; and Phyllis Snider and her husband Ivan; and a great-grandson, Owen Gregg.

Darrell is survived by his children: Mike Gregg and his wife, Billie Jo of Kearney; Monte Gregg and his wife, Roxann of Bertrand; Matt Gregg and his wife, Penny of Bertrand; and Angie McDermott and her husband, Roger of Kearney; eight grandchildren: Amber Swartz and her husband, Kevin of Kearney; Ashley Hansen and her husband, Tony of Bertrand; Trevor Gregg and his wife, Brittani of Lake Wales, Florida; Gage Gregg and his wife, Kylee of Bertrand; Jared Gregg of Kearney; Meghan Schneringer and her husband, Clint of Kearney; Abbe Martell and her husband, Buddy of Goodyear, Arizona; Jacob Gregg and his wife, Tessa of Bertrand; three step-grandsons: Ryan McDermott and his wife, Carol of El Paso, Texas; Nathan McDermott and wife, Babs of La Marque, Texas; and Joseph Mc-Dermott and his wife, Jen of Omaha; eleven great-grandchildren: Riah and Skylar Swartz of Kearney; Carson, Lilly, Walker, and River Hansen of Bertrand; Charlie and Luke Gregg of Lake Wales, Florida; Bennett Gregg of Bertrand; Kellen and Briggs Schneringer of Kearney; seven step-great-grandchildren: Marco Rubio of Omaha; Kailie Korth and her husband, Shawn of Lindsay, Nebraska; Rylie McDermott of Lincoln; Ireland McDermott of El Paso, Texas; Sloane and Everett McDermott of La Marque; Maclyn McDermott of Lincoln; one step great-great-grandson, Edwin Korth of Lindsay; one step great-greatgranddaugher, Layla Korth of Lindsay; sistersin- law, Donna Arnold of Sun City, Arizona; and Jackie Reiss of Holdrege; and extended family members.

A Visitation was held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
