DOROTHY E. LAMB
Dorothy Esther (Lukens, Babcock) Lamb was born to George Oran and Ella (Hall) Lukens on March 28, 1929, in the family home in Sioux County, Nebraska. She left this life for her eternal home with Jesus on July 5, 2022.
Dee’s mother, Ella, died when Dee was just 14 months old. Her daddy, Oran, had 8 children to care for, so he asked Albert and Fannie Rennecker, Ella’s older sister, if they would takein Dee and her older sister, June. Albert and Fannie became her Dad and Mom for the rest of her life.
Dee was raised in Beaver City, Nebraska and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1946. She worked in the telephone office during her high school years. During that time, she met Roy Babcock. In the Fall of 1946, she became the teacher at Spring Valley Community School. On December 31, 1946, Dee was married to Roy J. J. Babcock in Norton, Kansas with Albert and Fannie as their witnesses. Two daughters were born to this union, Cheryl Jolene and Terri Jean. Roy died from polio on September 26, 1949.
Dee was married to William (Bill) Walter Lamb at the Christian Church in Beaver City, Nebraska on November 22, 1950. Bill, Dee, Cheryl, and Terri became a new family. Through the years, their family was blessed with 3 more children, Cynthia Ann, William Van, and Alan Dee. Bill and Dee were married for 61 years. Through the years Bill and Dee owned and operated bakeries in Kansas and in Beaver City. This was a large part of their early life. They were excellent bakers, all would agree.
In 1957, Bill, Dee, and their five children, moved from Kansas to a farm South of Beaver City, Nebraska. Dee loved the farm life; raising chickens, milking cows, and hanging her clothes on the line for the wind to whip them dry. She loved everything about living in the country with her family. She even loved driving the tractor and preparing the ground for crops to be planted. Dee was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior for all her years. Dear friends have de scribed her as a mentor, prayer warrior, woman of faith, and even as a second mother. She was always involved in serving her church and her local community. She served her community as the Democratic Delegate to the state convention, Dee taught Sunday school, directed vacation Bible school, and served as treasurer on the church board. She was president of Ladies Aide and the Missionary Society. Dee continued to teach Bible study into her late 80’s. She worked at the telephone company, the sale barn, Kelly’s Supermarket, and the Beaver City Manor. She also took the census for Furnas County. When Dee was 60 years old, she began to China paint. She loved to paint and was very good. Many of her family and friends have treasures in their home that she painted especially for them. Bill and Dee were supporters of a missionary couple in Kenya who became like family to them over their 39 years of support.
Dee was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy, in 1949, and her second husband, Bill, in 2011.
