A Memorial Service for Edwin R. “Ed” Sisson will be held at a later date.
Edwin Ronald “Ed” Sisson, 82 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away, on October 20, 2021, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Ed was born in Kearney, Nebraska on May 18, 1939, the oldest of five children, born to Ralph and Josephine (Carlson) Sisson. He received his primary education from the Kearney Public School and later attended and graduated from Milligan High School in California, with the class of 1957.
Ed moved back to Kearney and it was there, that he met Marian G. Myers. On April 26, 1959, the couple were married in Hayes Center, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: Mike, Ron and Keri. The couple made their home in Kearney.
Ed worked for the Nash Finch Company for most of his adult life, and was a meat cutter by trade in Cozad, Grand Island and Holdrege. He took some courses in Meat Merchandising at Central Community College in Grand Island. In 1976, Marian and Ed opened up their own Jack and Jill store in Cambridge, Nebraska.
Ed enjoyed NASCAR racing, vacation cruises, football, bowling, and talking on the phone for hours. The couple has many memories from their camping trips especially at Methodist Cove and making a few trips to Texas for the winters. Ed loved his pets, especially the horses and dogs. But nothing could stop him from spending time with his grandkids and greatgrandkids.
He was a member of the Elks, JC’s, and the fire departments in Cozad and Cambridge. Ed coached junior legion and legion baseball.
Ed was preceded in death by: his parents; three siblings: Dick Sisson; Sheila Bossard and her husband, Larry; and Judy Potter; brother-in-law, Richard Thompson; and his beloved dog Duke.
Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian Sisson of Holdrege; three children: Mike Sisson and his wife, Vicki of Holdrege; Ron Sisson of Aurora, Nebraska; Keri Wlaschin and her husband, Shawn of Grand Island; ten grandchildren: Andrea Norris of Holdrege; Brian Sisson and his wife, Katie of Arapahoe, Nebraska; Jeffrey Sisson and his wife, Darianne of Kearney; Travis Sisson and his wife, Stacy of Windsor, Colorado; Will Sisson of Arapahoe; Tawny Pemberton and her husband, Jake of Grand Island; Matt Sisson of Aurora, Nebraska; Jordan Wlaschin of Grand Island; Jaden Wlaschin of Grand Island; and Jarren Wlaschin of Grand Island; seven great-grandchildren: Gavin and Addisyn Norris of Holdrege; Graham, Harper, and Millie Sisson of Arapahoe; Crew and Koda Sisson of Kearney; McKenzie Horner of Stromsburg, Nebraska; and Sloan and Corbin Sisson of Washington; one brother: Bob Sisson and his wife, Darlene of Oregon; sisters-in-law, Cappy Sisson of Portland, Oregon; Sharon Kay Thompson of Gothenburg, Nebraska; Mindy Jo Valines and her husband, Ed of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Jim Potter of Cleveland, Ohio; William Jay Myers and his wife, Deanna of Downs, Kansas; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. There will be no memorial book signing or visitation, the family is honoring Ed’s wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Ed’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
