Erna (Coady) Martin

Erna (Coady) Martin was born in Oxford, NE on April 13, 1929, the daughter of John Bernard Coady and Theodocia Luella Smith. Erna celebrated her 95th birthday in 2024 and passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024 in Parker, CO.

After graduating from Oxford High School, she married Stanley Wayne Martin in Oxford on October 26,1949 and they moved to McCook NE. Erna worked for the Bell Telephone Company, starting as a Telephone Operator and progressing to a Switchman. Erna and Stan lived in Nebraska, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma and she made friends everywhere she lived.

She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls and various United Methodist Churches. Erna had one daughter, Sheri Lou.

Erna was preceded in death by her parents and her 4 brothers and sisters; Ivan, Willard, Evelyn, and Eva. She is survived by her daughter Sheri Lou (Martin) Pennington, her son-in-law Larry; grandson, Mark Wayne Pennington and his wife Abbie and great-grandson Jacob Wayne Pennington. There will be a private service for the family and Erna’s ashes will be spread in Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McCook Humane Society, 100 South St, McCook NE 69011.
