GLEN L. WOLZEN
A graveside memorial service for Glen L. Wolzen will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilsonville Cemetery in Wilsonville, Nebraska. The family requests that those in attendance dress casually and bring a lawn chair.
Following the graveside service, refreshments will be served at the Wilsonville Christian Church.
Glen Leon Wolzen, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of Palisade, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Glen was born on the farm northeast of Wilsonville on February 8, 1942, the fifth of six children and the youngest son, born to Simon and Frieda (Ruhs) Wolzen. He attended Hendley Public School.
Glen left home at 14 years old to work on various farms in the area.
He then found his love as a ranch hand on various ranches in South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska. He was well known for his knack for working with horses and mules. On one ranch, he was able to train horses to carry full sheets of plywood, one on each side plus fencing supplies. Glen was the wagon master for a month-long tour of the ranch land for the Western Horseman magazine editor and crew. In February 1964, Glen was united in marriage to Bonnie Peck Turkleson of Belvidere, South Dakota and they were divorced in 1966. He then married Barbara Mattox McAdam of Cudter, South Dakota in December 1967. They were divorced in 1972.
Glen then moved to the Gillette, Wyoming area and later married Laurel (Leedy) Wolzen on June 26, 2008, at the courthouse of Hitchcock County in Trenton. To any of his marriages, no children were born.
Glen was an avid reader, and he especially enjoyed the author Louis L’amour. He liked to watch Westerns on TV, especially John Wayne, and listen to country western music. A few of his favorite singers were: Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, and George Jones.
Glen was more at home riding the pastures with his Border Collie or Blue Heeler dog following along.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Velda Hill and her husband, LaVon; Esthera Zuldorf and her husband, Bud; two brothers: DeWayne Wolzen; and Merlin Wolzen and his wife, Shirley.
Glen is survived by his wife, Laurel Wolzen of Palisade, Nebraska; sister, Gwendolyn Holtze and her husband Dennis; sister-in-law: Marilyn Wolzen; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing. The family is honoring Glen’s wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Glen’s honor, and kindly suggested to Holdrege Memorial Homes or to the family for later designation.
