Body

Jan McCarville (née Hix) unexpectedly went to meet her Savior on December 6, 2021 at McCook Community Hospital. Spending her life attending others, she herself was attended in death by her husband, James, and her four children.

Jan was a great mom. She loved her children with her whole heart, and more. Jan was always patient, always kind, and always forgave others. She gave the most amazing hugs, made the best meatloaf, and always listened. Jan loved playing board games with her children, reading her Bible, and spending time with her grandchildren. She spent her life serving others. Jan worked for decades as a medication aide in retirement and nursing communities in McCook, Cambridge, and Trenton. In addition to friends and family, her passing will be marked by the many people she supported in their final years.

Jan was born May 5th, 1957 in Hill City, Kansas to Gordon and Joan Hix. Her older brother Joe lives in Grand Island. Jan attended high school in Oxford, Ne and graduated in 1975. She married James McCarville, of McCook, on November 5, 1983. The wedding was held at Saint Mary’s in Orleans, NE. They had 5 children: Kimberly, Daniel, Samantha, David, and Mary.

Jan was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly; parents, Gordon Hix and Joan Ohman; and brother, John Hix. Jan is survived by her husband, Jim; children: Daniel, Samantha, David, and Mary; and grandchildren, Milo McCarville and JoAnn Merrill. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel has been deputed with the final arrangements. The family recommends memorial contributions be sent to the Museum of the High Plains.

Visitation was held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. The family was present to greet friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
