JOHN M. HEMELSTRAND
A Funeral Service for John M Hemelstrand will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Dave Thorell officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.
John Myers Hemelstrand, 94 years of age, of Loomis, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Bertrand Nursing Home at Bertrand. John was born in Gosper County, Nebraska, on September 21, 1926, the youngest of three children, born to Ivan and Linda (Meyers) Hemelstrand. He received his education from Mascot Public School and graduated with the class of 1945.
On October 15, 1950, John was united in marriage to Joan Marilyn Childers at Edison, Nebraska and to this union three children were born: John Melvin, Judith Monica and Julie Marie. The family made their home on a farm south of Bertrand in Gosper County, Nebraska. John was proud to continue the work on the family farm. In 2003 John and Joan moved to Loomis.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and baseball. John liked to watch horse racing, wrestling, Nebraska football, and Kansas City Royals baseball games.
Besides his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by, one son, Johnny Hemelstrand; a son-in-law, Marvin McClain; a granddaughter, Monica McClain; a brother, Glen Hemelstrand; and a sister Ellen Fischer.
He is survived by two daughters: Judith McClain of Loomis; Julie Monter and her husband, Charles of Aurora, Nebraska; nineteen grandchildren; twentyseven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in John’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
