A funeral service for Kathleen Tams was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Jason Bonnicksen officiating. Interment followed at the Alma Cemetery, Alma, Nebraska.

Kathleen Kay (Linner) Tams, 77 years of age, of Alma, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at CHI Health - Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Kathleen was born on April 6, 1946, at the Brewster Hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska, the eldest of twelve children, born to Harold Lloyd and Annabelle Rogene (Maret) Linner. She was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hendley, Nebraska and later confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Norton, Kansas. Kathleen received her primary education from District #46 country school, south of Beaver City, Nebraska. She then attended and graduated from Beaver City High School, with the class of 1964.

She pursued higher education from the Lincoln School of Business in Lincoln, Nebraska.

On July 20, 1974, Kathleen was united in marriage to Larry Tams at the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, where they lived and raised five children: George Scott, twins: Marte, and Monte Scott, Yvonne (Scott) Tolle, and Lewis Tams.

In later years, Kathleen worked at the Holdrege Public Library for over 17 years.

Kathleen was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, where she was active with the women’s groups, Choir, FCE Conference, and she also taught Sunday school. She also worked as the Secretary for the church for many years and served on the Parish Counsel.

Kathleen served on the Board and volunteered at the Caring Cupboard in Alma; she also volunteered at the Alma Senior Center, and the Hospital Auxillary. She was a member of the Atlanta Neighborly Neighbors Extension Club, and received a 50-year membership pin, in addition she was a member of the Di-Na-Mite Extension Club, until it dissolved, and the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed getting together with the “Hens”, a.k.a. her sisters, playing Bingo, coloring pictures, and she was an avid reader. Kathleen also enjoyed cheering on the Husker Volleyball team and she and Larry enjoyed watching local high school sports and cheering on her many great nieces and great nephews. She was an avid collector of many items, but especially enjoyed collecting owls, and tea sets.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glen and Wilma (Schmalken) Tams; a son, Marte Scott in 2002; two sisters-inlaw: Kaye Linner; and Kim Linner; and two brothers-in-law: Gary Carter; and Lynn Rakes.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Tams of Alma; four children: George Scott and his wife, DeeAnn of Oxford, Nebraska; Monte Scott and his husband, Michael Gentile of Longmeadow, Massachusetts; Yvonne Tolle and her husband, Clinton of Paso Robles, California; and Lewis Tams and his wife, Sara of Rossville, Kansas; six grandchildren: Jamie Scott of Lincoln; Aaron Scott and his wife, Amanda of Hastings, Nebraska; Annabelle Tolle of Bothell, Washington; Natalie Tolle of Portland, Oregon; Emma Tams and Conner Tams of Rossville; her siblings: Ron Linner and his wife, Mary of Bird City, Kansas; Shirley Volgamore and her husband, Ervin of Beaver City; Margie Denio and her husband, Earl of Stratton, Nebraska; Denise Rakes of Cambridge, Nebraska; Doug Linner of Hendley; Bev Hilker and her husband, Butch of Arapahoe, Nebraska; Jim Linner and his wife, Heidi of Norton, Kansas; Alvin Linner of Beaver City; Junior Linner and his wife, Don of Beaver City; Randy Linner and his wife, Cindy of Norton, Kansas; and Roger Linner of Beaver City; one sister-in-law, Connie Carter of Palmyra, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, along with other relatives, and friends.

A private visitation will be held.

A memorial has been established in Kathleen’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
