A Memorial Service for Maurice D. Cole, Sr. will be held (today) Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Texas.

Maurice Duane Cole, Sr., 88 years of age, of Stamford, Nebraska, died on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska. Maurice was born on May 3, 1934, in Alma, the third of seven children, born to Alanison E. “A.E” and Hulda Viola (Husband) Cole. Maurice attended and graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1951.

On June 11, 1955, Maurice was united in marriage to Beth Joy Loose. The couple was blessed with four children: Catherine, Cynthia, Maureen, and Maurice, Jr. The family made their home in Funk, and later rural Loomis, Nebraska, and finally settled in Stamford.

Maurice was employed at the Funk Elevator, part-time at Christensen Truck in of Holdrege, and various farmers. He enjoyed reading, gardening, tinkering on old tractors, and enjoyed helping as a Scout Leader.

Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Beth in 2017; his parents; three brothers: Eddie Dale at the age of 11, James Cole and his wife, Janice, and Dean Cole and his wife, Bernice; and two sons-in-law: Steve Anderson, and E.J. Platt.

Maurice is survived by his four children: Catherine Bodenheimer and her husband, Gary of Holdrege; Cynthia Anderson of Edgewater, Florida; Maureen Reyes and her husband, Xaiver Reyes, Sr. of Lamesa, Texas; and Maurice Cole, Jr. of Franklin, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his three siblings: Rebecca Cantrall; Roberta Martin; and Darrell Cole, all of Florida; two sisters-in-law: Vickie Huggett and her husband, Paul of Bertrand; and Ophelia Loose of Denver, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family has chosen cremation. There will be no visitation or viewing.

A memorial has been established in Maurice’s honor and kindly suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
