Born in McCook, Nebraska on the 30th of August 1964, Michele Gerkman was the daughter of Melvin and Joyce Nicholson. She graduated from Beaver Valley High School in 1982 where she excelled in academics, band, and athletics. She attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, earning a BS in Ac- counting.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of 32 years, Andy Gerkman, her children: Damian Gerkman (Shaheed) of Mexico City, Mexico, and Luke Gerkman (Nancy) of College Station, TX.
She is also survived by her beloved father Melvin Nicholson of Lebanon, NE; her siblings: Scott Nicholson (Arfe) of Cary, IL; Pam (Les) Hotovy of Omaha, NE; and Stephen (Valoree) Nicholson of Lincoln, NE. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Joyce Nicholson.
For thirty years, Michele was the proprietor of Best Accounting. She showed tremendous dedication to her hundreds of clients across the country, many of whom had grown to be close friends. The numerous hours and energy she invested in each of her clients was both admired and valued by them. In addition, she served on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Enrolled Agents Society, an organization of Michigan tax professionals.
Michele’s Christian faith was important to her. She took on the role of church librarian for many years and was actively involved with the community at Fellowship EPC. Her love of books also inspired her to homeschool both of her children for many years and direct the Heritage community homeschool group.
Family was extremely important to Michele. A lover of genealogy and her family connection to American history, Michele held the position of treasurer for her local chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Traveling was Michele’s passion. Going on road trips with her family and friends brought her true joy. She loved seeing the many historic landmarks and hidden gems around the country. She especially enjoyed exploring nature and waterfalls.
Michele will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her influence on countless lives has been immense, and her absence will always be felt. May her memory be carried on by those whose lives she impacted.
