{ obituary } Mitchel D. Cross
Mitchel Dee Cross passed away on June 10, 2023, from a heart attack in Montrose, CO, at the age of 60. Mitch was born on December 26, 1962, to Frank and Norma (Waggoner) Cross. The oldest of five children, they lived on a farm north of Edison, NE, in the Turkey Creek area. Mitch explored and hunted every inch of it.
He attended the District #7 country school in his elementary years and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1981. He eventually moved to Arizona, where he learned the electrical trade and became a journeyman lineman for multiple companies, including the Salt River Project. During this time, he met the love of his life and future bride, Sabrina Gonzales, whom he married on December 27, 1988. Their pride and joy, Logan Charles, was born on November 15, 1990. The family moved to Durango, CO, in 2001, where he soon became an instructor for future linemen wishing to join the electrical trade. He also enjoyed his favorite childhood hobbies of hunting, fishing, and farming alongside his own family in the mountains of Colorado. After many years of being an instructor in Colorado, he returned to the journeyman lineman trade. His work took him all around the country until he retired from the profession in 2019. Mitch enjoyed his retirement hunting alongside his son Logan, his dogs Boozer and Dot, and many friends. He was not only an expert lineman and hunter but also a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He will live on in our hearts and memories and will be forever missed by those who were close to him. He is survived by his wife Sabrina, son Logan, mother Norma, brothers Jeff (Ronda) and Jeremy (Shanda), his sisters Marcia (Philip Gengel) and Megan (Andrew Rewolinski), and many nieces and nephews. Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Frank; maternal grandparents, Charles and Ellen Waggoner; and his paternal grandparents, Leo and Hazel Cross.
