ROBERT D. GROSS

Robert David Gross, age 86, of Holbrook, NE, passed away at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney NE on September 2, 2023.

He was born in Ellis, KS on August 29, 1937, to Marcellus and Bertha Gross. Robert graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture High School in Curtis, NE in 1955.

On September 27, 1955, he joined the United States Navy. He served as a Naval Sea Bee in the Atlantic Operations Area. Robert was Honorably Discharged September 26, 1961.

Robert returned home to the family farm north of Holbrook. On August 18, 1969, he was united in marriage to Rosietta Gross at Hays, KS at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church of Cambridge. He was a Lector, at St. John’s for over 40 years. He played saxophone for years in polka bands in southwest, NE.

Robert raised cattle, corn, wheat, and worked as a crop insurance adjuster for 19 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcellus and Bertha, sister, Calysta Rohr.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosietta of Holbrook; 3 sons; David Gross of North Platte, Kevin (Tara) Gross of Cambridge, and Jason (April) Gross of Lichfield, NE; 8 grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Cambridge with Father Ken Wehrs officiating. Interment will be in the St.

John’s Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge with Military Honors the US Navy Honors Detail. Friends may leave online condolences at lockenour.com.
