Ronald Oborne Scharf Sr., age 80, passed away early morning on Friday, October 28th, 2022 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital, in Kearney, Nebraska surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on September 30th 1942 to parents Lloyd Ensel and Dorothy May (Nelson) Scharf in Hermiston, Oregon.

As a young child the family moved to Curtis, Nebraska where he attended school and later moved to California. In 1960, Ron joined the Navy and was a serviceman until his Honorable Discharge in 1963. Ron married Ada (Ball) on May 4th 1963. And to this union three children were born. He was a very skilled cabinet maker and leatherworker, and was a passionate guide with a mule team and raised many horses, parakeets, and rabbits.

Later in life he retired to Hawaii and enjoyed life there immensely, continuing hobbies. Due to health reasons Ron returned to Nebraska where with his son and family they built a handicap accessible cabin in Elwood. During his free time he loved tending to his garden, raising rabbits and teaching his granddaughter about these things. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Proceeding in death by his grandson Christopher Scharf, his parents, and step-father Art Neilson, sister Kay Scharf-Wilson and brother in laws Dwane Wilson and Joe Bellamy.

Survivors include his son Ronald Scharf and wife Cinnamon Scharf and their children Jeffrey, Andrew, Simon and Ashlee Scharf, daughters Diane Scharf-Mortenson and her children Lane and Colton Mortenson, and Debra Scharf and her children Kendal Hall and Derek and Robert Pinson, sister Lloydelle Bellamy, brothers Donald Scharf and wife Leila, Leonard Scharf Sr. and wife Nancy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name. No viewing or visitation will be held.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at 12004 South Spur 56A in Maxwell, Nebraska.

A luncheon will be held afterwards at the First Christian Church in Elwood Nebraska.

Elwood Funeral Home of Elwood, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
