Ron was born in Holdrege on November 5, 1947, the oldest of two sons, born to Goran Ronald and Betty Marie (Weaver) Upson. He received his primary education from the Country School and later attended and graduated from Beaver City High School, with the class of 1966.

He pursued higher education at McCook Junior College and transferred to Kearney State College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1971. Ron married and they had three children, Scott, Tiffany, and Blake. While in Kearney, Ron worked construction for Johnson Imperial and gained many skills that he used throughout his life.

Upon his graduation, Ron started teaching at the Edison Public School until 1980. The couple made their home on the farm near Precept where Ron worked at the FSA office in Beaver City, for 26 years. Ron also farmed and especially enjoyed harvest where everyone would come together to help finish out the season.

Ron enjoyed grilling, hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and coworkers. The Upson home was open to anyone whether you were a friend or you just needed a place to stay.

Ron spent many hours riding horses, working cattle, and team roping.

While Ron was able, he never missed an opportunity to watch his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. He was a member of St.

John’s Lutheran Church, where he was active as an usher, elder, soundman, assisted with youth groups, and was on the board of education.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Lloyd Upson.
