SHELIA I. PRUITT
Shelia Irene (Herbert) Pruitt, age 76, of Holdrege, Nebraska formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Grand Island Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 17, 1949 at Cambridge, Nebraska to Harvey Dale & Margaret Ida Amelia (Breinig) Herbert.
She grew up in Arapahoe and graduated from Arapahoe High School. After school, she worked at the Derby Café where she met Charles Lee Vaughan Pruitt.
Charles and Shelia were married on March 28, 1970. To this marriage was blessed with 9 children. She loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports.
Her great joy came in getting to see her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She was a devout and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Many weekends were spent with her family camping, boating and fishing.
She was a devout Christian. She raised and took her children to church. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Arapahoe. Shelia was a hard worker, working many years helping her husband in construction. She drove a school bus for Arapahoe Public Schools until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Pruitt, her parents Harvey & Margaret, her brothers Dick & David Herbert, sister-inlaw Margaret Herbert, brother-in-law Mick Daughenbaugh, son-inlaw Bill Strackbein.
She is survived by her brother Dan & wife DJ Herbert, brother Don Herbert, sister Patty Daughenbaugh. Children Larry & wife Teresa Myers, Mike & wife Wendy Pruitt, Ed & wife Cindy Pruitt, Tammy & husband Kevin Hilker, Teresa Strackbein, Shawn & wife Joanna Pruitt, Vaughn King, Bobby & wife Jenny King, Kim & husband Jason Polenske, and lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Brandon Pruitt, Jacob Pruitt, Reid Pruitt, Dale Ellis, Nate Myers, Owen King, Malachi King, Dominik Roberts.
Visitation was held Saturday, July 18, 2026 one hour before the service at the Church of Christ, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 2 PM at the Church of Christ, Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor George Probasco, officiating. Interment followed at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Garey Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
