THOMAS L. WHITE
Thomas Lee White, age 79, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska three days after his 79th birthday. He was born March 21, 1945 in Westmoreland, Kansas to Harold and Doris (Fairchild) White.
Tom served in the United States Navy with his brother Wayne on the USS Chemung. He was honorably discharged, and was very proud of his service.
Tom saw the country coast to coast and border to border through the windshield of an 18 wheeler. He drove many miles through all kinds of circumstances and weather to support his family. Tom (Double D) had many friends on the road and on the CB radio.
Tom loved to fish and he loved watching NASCAR especially Jeff Gordon #24. Occasionally, he would watch Husker football. Tom loved animals and before his stroke in 2013, he had more cats in his home than he could count.
On January 16, 1966, Tom married Sheryl Parton and was blessed with four children, Mary Sue, Andrew, Jeffrey and Janeen. On September 21, 1976, Tom married Lori Racette and was blessed with two children Jason and Sarah.
Tom was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Andrew, his parents, brothers, Wayne, Bill, Jim, Danny, and sisterin-law Kay.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Mary Sue Haag (Benjamin, Christopher), Jeff (Karin)White (Dusty & Adam Ernest, David, JoAnn), Janeen Gill(Ashley Winder, Andee (Taylor) Quigley, Anastasia Miller (friend Jaylen), Autumn Miller), Jason (friend Nickie) White (McKenna, Zoe, Aidan, Alexis), Sarah (Kraig) Unruh (Kaden, Kolin), Zackary White (Andy’s son), greatgrandchildren Jazmine, Lilith, Junior and one on the way, sister-in-law, Dorothy, siblings, Leva (Bob) Ortega, Pat White, Kendall (Carol)White, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and those who loved him at Arbor Manor, in Fremont, Hilltop Estates, in Gothenburg, and Elwood Care Center in Elwood and more friends than he could count. Tom will certainly be missed.
No viewing or visitation. Funeral Service was held at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook (305 West C) on Tuesday, April 2 at 11 AM with Pastor Steve Bales, officiating. Elwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial was at the Culbertson Cemetery, Culbertson, Nebraska next to Andy.
Memorials to defray funeral expenses should be sent to Mary Sue. Any remaining monies will be given to local animal shelters.
