A Graveside Memorial Service for Warren L. Baxter will be held during the summer of 2024 at the Carter Cemetery, rural Orleans, Nebraska.

Warren Lee Baxter, 76 years of age, of rural Orleans, Nebraska, died on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at his home. Warren was born on April 15, 1947, in Kearney, Nebraska to Bernard L. and Phyllis (Mulford) Baxter. He attended many different schools, as his father found work in different mills in the area, including, Edison, and Loomis, in Nebraska, and El Centro in California. When he was 15 years old, Warren started driving a chopper for his father in Heber, California. He also worked as a truck driver for the mill. His family returned to Nebraska and he completed his education at Edison High School, graduating in 1965. He pursued higher education at Central Community College.

On February 9, 1966, Warren enlisted into the United States Army at Oakland, California, and served two tours during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. On January 29, 1969, Warren was honorably discharged.

On July 29, 1966, Warren was united in marriage to Marlys Broeker in Beaver City, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Edison and later settled at their forever home near Orleans. Warren farmed and also worked for different area farmers. He worked at several COOP’s throughout central and western Nebraska.

The couple were blessed with three children: Connie, Anna, and Warren “Wesley”.

Together the family enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and going for drives to enjoy the scenery, check on crops, and spend extra time with those they were with. They made several trips to Texas to visit his brothers. Warren was a member of the Edison American Legion Post #343.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Phyllis Baxter; his stepmother, Lois Arnold; father-inlaw, and mother-in-law: Oral and Pearl Broeker; brother, John Baxter; and brother-in-law, Bryan Broeker.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlys Baxter of rural Orleans; three children: Connie Witt and husband, Jeff of Kearney, Nebraska; Anna Schooley and husband, Sean of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Wesley Baxter and his wife, Kara of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Bleys and Barret Witt; Kirby and Katie Roberts and Rhianna Jacobsen; Sebastian, Tobias, and Gabriel Baxter; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Stephen Baxter and wife, Kathy of Washington; and Rodney Baxter and wife, Tiffani of Texas; four brothers-in-law: Roger Broeker and wife, Elizabeth of Maywood; Tracy Broeker and wife, Sue of Kearney; Ralph Broeker and wife, Gloria of Holdrege; and Alan Broeker and wife, Valerie of Milford, Nebraska; along with nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many friends.

Memorials in Warren’s honor can be made to the family for future designation.
