Each year on June 14, Americans celebrate one of the most iconic symbols of freedom the world has ever known: the American flag. We didn’t pick this date by accident. On the same day in 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Act, which read, “Resolved: That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
Oxford’s 64 Annual Turkey Days celebration June 11 - 13 was very well received. Although there was not a carnival this year, there were still plenty of fun activities to take part in. Events like the tasting tea, craft show, ice cream social, and free swimming and games at the Oxford Pool were well attended. The kids games had about 50 show up to take part in games, a coin scramble sponsored by South Central State Bank, and Stick Horse Obstacle Course sponsored by Nutrien.
